Yes, it’s that time of year. Football playoffs. As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I am excited because they went to the playoffs and beat 3 worthy opponents to go to the Suoerbowl. I have waited semi-faithfully for about 30 years for the Chiefs to have this kind of team. But I digress.

The Chiefs had an up and down season. It wasn’t the storybook ending you expect. They would have to win 3 games to get to the Superbowl. Only the first game would be played at their home stadium. And as always in the playoffs, it’s win or go home.

Well, the Chiefs actually did just that. They won all 3 games and will be in the Superbowl next weekend. Then all the hype and all the talking starts. And videos are made too. One of those videos was a compilation of Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, mic’d up. What he says during the game or on the sidelines is all recorded. They take the best parts and put it all together. And what you hear is a real champion talking.

Mahomes tells the team on many occasions to give it all they’ve got on every play. “How bad do you want it?”, Mahomes asks the team. I believe with a leader like that who gives the game his all, it will be hard for the Chiefs to lose.

We all have a champion. He gave His all as well. Even more so, He gave His life for each of us. But just like Mahomes leading and inspiring his teammates, Jesus leads and inspires us. As Christians we are on His team. There’s no quitting, no giving up. Jesus leads us. Jesus wants us to win. Not a trophy but a life in heaven with Him. Jesus is there beside you, cheering you on, leading you to get to the goal, to get to heaven.

Nothing always goes perfectly. But Jesus forgives. Mahomes doesn’t quit throwing passes to a receiver that drops the ball. Mahomes will throw it to him again. Jesus does the same with us. Jesus forgives us and we start again.

The best part is Jesus has already won! He defeated all his opponents. All you have to do is come to Him. Become part of His team. And then get your turn holding the trophy when you win and get to heaven!
