It’s no secret I like to hike. There is a 2 mile trail just a short drive from home. There’s forest and open fields and a river all on this walk. Takes me about 40 minutes to an hour to complete the walk.

The past coule of hikes I have carried my binoculars with me. That’s another hobby of mine. I am a birdwatcher. It started many years ago when my dad brought home a bird feeder and a Little Golden book of Birds. Some of you may remember those. It was just your basic birdbook with robin and blue jay and such. So off I went with my binoculars and nowdays my little Golden book has turned into the Audubon app for birds.

This is where I take a lot of pictures but I try to make them different and maybe a little unusual. And now with my binoculars in hand, hopefully we will see some birds too. I try to go early mornings or evenings because the light is better then. Each walk brings new things to see.

Today on the water were Northern shovelers. Great blue herons were on the shore. I also saw a couple of birds in the trees. I saw a bluebird and a white-breasted nuthatch. I almost forgot. There was a belted kingfisher in the trees just off the river. And of course, there’s always robins.

Nature is God’s second book and you can see His handiwork through all creation. Look at the detail God made into everything. All of it was for us to enjoy. So take some time and meet God in His creation. And just get out there!
