What’s in a Color?

As you should know by now I am a birdwatcher. This weekend I went on a walk at the usual place, Rocky Ford.

It’s  a simple two-mile walk and it’s all sidewalk. There are the usual things to see along the way. On one side is the farmer’s field and on the other is the river, the Big Blue River.

It’s  always nice and peaceful and you might even meet a person or two. The other thing you see there is birds. Lots of different birds. That’s  one reason I go. And on this day, the trail did not disappoint.  i saw the usual suspects: robins and vultures. But then I also saw   a red-headed woodpecker, a white-breasted nuthatch and an oriole. And to top it off I even saw a couple of bluebirds.

Birds really don’t  care about color. Each one has their own colors and they, for the most part, get along. They may eat from the same feeder or live in the same forest but each different bird has their own niche.

Maybe people can take a lesson from the birds. Maybe we should strive to get along with each other. It doesn’t  matter what our color is either. But we should be getting along with those people around us whatever their color.

God doesn’t see us as colors. He looks at our heart. And He wants to be living in your heart. With God in charge of your heart, it really doesn’t matter what’s  in a color.
