Sometimes it’s just fun to get outside no matter the weather. Like today for me. There was a steady but gentle rain falling. A pefect time to go for a walk out in nature.

I went to a park nearby. It’s called Rocky Ford because wagons used to ford the river there. Now there is a nice sidewalk on a one mile path that runs on the land above the river. When you walk all the way down the path and then back to your car, you have walked 2 miles and that was my plan.

Off I started. You can hear the rain hitting the leaves of the trees but really nothing else. Nature seems to be silent. It’s so peaceful and you feel God’s peace inside yourself.

I always keep a watch out for animals and birds. I saw a fox dart into the brush a ways ahead of me. As I walked along some more, a killdeer, a bird who makes it’s nest on the ground, flew out in front of me. It went walking down the sidewalk about 30 feet in front of me. Killdeer parents will fake having a broken wing so an animal won’t get the eggs or young. The plan is for the predator to follow the easy prey and not go after the nest. I never did see a nest but I am sure the killdeer nest was close by.

I finished one way and turned around to head back. The rain picked up. I walked a little faster. I did see a cardinal in the trees. But not much else moving. A few minutes later was driving on my way back home.

I guess rain is God’s way of washing nature. I feel God’s cleansing and His peace when I am out walking in the rain. But you don’t have to go walk on the rain to experience all God has to give. All it takes is you asking for His presence and His forgiveness. God will give you His peace in your heart wherever you are. Whether you’re walking in the rain or not, just remember to keep God with you in your heart.
