The Message

Tonight is the State of the Union speech. President Trump will deliver this one. There is history and tradition and lots of formality for this speech. All the nation (at least most of it) will listen intently to what he has to say. Even those in other nations might be listening as well. Sure, it is kind of a pie-in-the-sky thing at times where the President will tell us what he would like to have if everyone did it his way. Whether you agree or not, it is a place to start a discussion.

There are lots of fun facts about the speech too. Lots of Presidents actually sent a written report to Congress and did not give a speech. There really is no set time for the speech. It really is done when the President is invited by the Speaker of the House. Of course, there is lots of applause too. The longest being 52 seconds in 2007. And we could go on and on.

The point here is that because it is the President making the speech and we give honor to his office, we listen to every word he says. Some we like and some we don’t. But all is noteworthy. We believe in the President of the United States because he is the president whether it is Donald Trump or Barak Obama or any other President.

Now for the obvious lesson and point of this blog. We listen with care to every word the President says because he is the President. We believe in the President. We honor the office. Now, we have a King, a Maker, a Creator. Do we believe in the word of our King, our God? His words are all written in the Bible. If we honor the President because of his office, shouldn’t we honor our God and listen to His words? Let’s find out what He has to say. Let’s listen to Him speak to our hearts. If you believe in God and the Bible then why don’t we make time to hear His most important words to us? Maybe it takes some thought and planning but it does too to listen to the President. So make up your mind to take some time to listen to Him each day.
