Persistence

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But when you were a kid did you ever bug mom and dad so much you finally got what you wanted? Eventually, you got different results.

About two weeks ago, I heard a tapping noise. It seemed to be coming from the back door. Nobody knocks on your back door and the sound wasn’t quite right for a knock. I got up and went to investigate. The noise was persistent, for sure. What do I see at the window of the back door? A male oriole. He was hanging on to the partitions of the glass and tapping the glass with his beak. Over and over again he tapped. Sometimes he would fly to the railing and sometimes to the tree just outside door. But he always came back. And he would tap on the glass.

What was the crazy bird doing? He kept it up all that evening. And the next. And the next. I was off work the next day. I was awakened to the sound of tap, tap, tap on the window again. The oriole kept it up all day. Yes, and the next day too. Why would an oriole or any bird do this? The only reason was he thought his reflection was another male oriole in his territory.

I am happy to say after about two weeks, the oriole is not tapping on the window anymore. Hopefully, he is off somewhere taking care of his family. The one thing I know for sure is the oriole wasn’t giving up.

There is Someone else that doesn’t give up either. Jesus knocks at your heart’s door. He doesn’t quit. He doesn’t give up. You may turn away from Him but He will still be there, just like the oriole. That is the definition of persistence. Someone who loves you so much, He will never give up on you. All you have to do is to let Jesus into your heart and life. Make the outcome different this time. Let Jesus come in.
